Thoracoscopic and laparoscopic surgery is considered routine for several surgical conditions in humans. Several minimally invasive procedures are now available for dogs and cats. These can offer an earlier and less painful recovery for our patients whilst still achieving a good surgical outcome. We shall discuss the minimally invasive procedures available for our patients and the expected benefits of carrying out these techniques versus open procedures. Patient and pathological factors on how to identify cases suitable for a minimally invasive procedure will be identified.
