Entering the unknown of the acute abdomen can be daunting to the surgeon and traumatic for the patient, so here is my guide to improving preparation and planning, performing a thorough exploration and maximising the benefit for the patient. We will also cover tips and tricks to improve access and stability of abdominal wall closure.
