Russell graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2003. After working in in mixed first-opinion practice in Bedfordshire from 2003-2006, he completed internship programmes at both Fitzpatrick Referrals and Davies Veterinary Specialists.

He undertook a three year residency programme shared between the University of Glasgow and Fitzpatrick referrals in 2007-2010, during which he was awarded the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2009. In 2013 he passed the ECVS diploma examination, becoming an EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. Since that time, he has worked exclusively in referral practice in the South of England, primarily accepting referrals in small animal orthopaedics.

Russell is interested in all aspects of small animal orthopaedics, but particularly fracture management, cranial cruciate ligament disease and developmental elbow disease.
