The CVS Referral Division has a well-established network of eight Specialist-led referral centres in the UK and Ireland, and multiple Certificate-led sites offering Advanced Practitioner services in all disciplines.


CVS Referrals Director

Professor John Innes

John joined CVS Group in 2013 as CVS Referrals Director overseeing the strategy and development of the specialist referral centres.

He was formerly professor of veterinary surgery at the University of Liverpool where he developed the small animal specialist services and led research in canine arthritis.

He has published over 85 peer-reviewed papers and authored several book chapters. John previously chaired the BSAVA Scientific Committee and has acted for RCVS in veterinary school accreditation. He continues to perform clinical activity in orthopaedics at ChesterGates Veterinary Specialists.

Referrals Operations Director

Dr Christopher Tems

Chris is the director of operations for the referral division and is responsible for the running of the eight referral sites across the UK along with any future new centres.

Chris is also responsible for delivering the referrals strategy for CVS across the entire business, including Ireland and the Netherlands.

Chris is an advanced practitioner in small animal surgery and has worked as a vet across the UK for more than 13 years. His previous roles have included clinical director and regional director for CVS.
